A streamlined workflow is imperative to managing schedule and risk on a construction site. Insight-WFP was brought on board a USD 450 million construction project by a Houston oil refinery to implement an Advanced Work Packaging System in an environment where construction planning was typically done on the fly. The goal was to free up the foremen to supervise safety, productivity, and quality.
Insight-WFP employed ConstructSim to facilitate this process. ConstructSim provided the virtual construction model and document control needed to manage information. The use of 4D simulations to visualize schedules kept workers on track, while progress was recorded for use in planning the next stages of construction. Using ConstructSim and Advanced Work Packaging best practices, the project was completed 6 weeks early and yielded an ROI of USD 36 million.
Shell is building a pioneering floating liquefied natural gas (FLNG) project, Prelude FLNG, which will be deployed hundreds of kilometres off the coast of Australia. With decks measuring 488-by-74 meters, the facility is comprised of fabricated at multiple yards and brought to Geoje, South Korea, for final assembly. Shell is using ProjectVantage Construction Management tools to manage the construction of the Prelude floating LNG facility in South Korea. Shell selected ConstructSim Work Package Server as the foundation of its construction management solution.
ConstructSim enables Shell to visually plan and execute work safely by focusing attention on construction work packages and tracking spooling progress. Constructability was improved through early identification of constraints. Being able to track teams as they work on a sequence of tasks meant that movements around the yard were optimised to create schedule efficiencies and improve work face planning. By improving cross-department visibility into the construction path, the Prelude project team optimized the path of construction.
